Abstract
Background: In Korea, since 2018, anesthesia quality assessment program was conducted twice, focusing on understanding the overall condition of the anesthesia area and inducing quality management and improvement of medical care. The authors try to analyze the results of this sequential program, explore the change trend of the evaluation index, and present a progressive alternative to improve the difference by target institute type.

Materials and Methods: In 2018 (1st) and 2021 (2nd), tertiary general hospitals, general hospitals, and hospital-level specialized hospitals were included among the healthcare institutions that requested all anesthesia for three months of treatment each. The data survey was conducted through a total or sample evaluation of institutions according to the number of data on the status of health care institutions and claims for health care benefit costs, and a total of 13 indices, which can be broadly classified into evaluation and monitoring indicators, were used to determine the Structure, Process, and Results were evaluated in the category. In order to evaluate the improvement of each indicator through sequential evaluation, the amount of change for each evaluation indicator was calculated, the change trend of the evaluation indicator was determined, and differences by institution type were analyzed.

Results: Compared to the first evaluation, the overall score improved. The number of Grade 1 institutions increased and also the Grade 5 institutions decreased, which showed the anesthesia quality assessment program had a positive effect on the improvement of the structure/process/results of anesthesia. There was a positive improvement in almost of all indicators through sequential evaluation.

Conclusion: It is desirable to consider indicators with high clinical importance first and then consider indicators with high feasibility.
